What The One is
The One (theOne companion) is an AI companion product that runs inside WeChat: users chat with AI characters in their WeChat contact list, with no separate app to install. It was created by Wang Dengke (DK) and his team behind Duxiang; the third-party AI job-mapping site bonjour.bio lists Wang Dengke as the founder of the Duxiang/TheOne team. The positioning is emotional companionship rather than productivity — in his blog, Wang Dengke describes the goal as letting ordinary people use AI in WeChat compliantly and simply, aiming for “companionship closer to real-life scenarios.”

The One runs on the WeChat plugin entry Tencent opened to OpenClaw. According to Wang Dengke’s blog, Tencent opened a plugin entry in March 2026 letting OpenClaw connect to WeChat through the open-source openclaw-weixin repository; he then built theOne in a few days, launching in early April 2026, where users scan a QR code to add the product as a WeChat contact and chat. This differs from standalone agent clients; as the show’s participant Orange put it, “The One，它都不是 Agent，它就是一个 Chat” — it is not an agent, just a chat. Growth and discussion in the show
Wang Dengke’s blog records the early growth: starting April 24, 2026, online users jumped from roughly one to two hundred to 1,600, then 15,000 the next day, peaking above 60,000 on the third night; during the May Day holiday the product reached “one million registered users in three days,” consuming on the order of a hundred billion tokens in a single day; at the time of writing, the blog says it handled over 100 million messages daily.
In Weekly #002’s chapter “平台内 AI 助手：入口简单，体验才完整” (In-platform AI assistants: simple entry, complete experience), Orange said Wang Dengke’s team “blew up” with The One, relaying their feedback that the OpenClaw QR codes provided by WeChat were unstable and failed to receive messages about 10% of the time in the Chinese transcript; when he asked why they did not build an app or website, the answer was that “users just love the contact list.” Orange also judged that scan-to-chat raised conversion to nearly 100%, about six times better than the “exposure-to-download” path.
