What the Omacom Foundation is
The Omacom Foundation is the nonprofit that funds the development, maintenance, and spread of Omarchy. Omarchy is the “Beautiful, fun & agentic Linux” distribution created by David Heinemeier Hansson (DHH) and incubated at 37signals, with code maintained in the omacom/omarchy GitHub repository. Organization and how it works
Per the official foundation page, its self-description is “The nonprofit funding the development, maintenance, and spread of Omarchy.” It employs people full time on Omarchy, supported through three arrangements:
- Patrons: the people and companies funding Omarchy’s development, maintenance, and spread; prospective founding and distinguished patrons are directed to david@omarchy.org.
- Sponsorships: multi-year funding for upstream projects Omarchy depends on (the page names Hyprland and mise), so their maintainers can work “without thinking about fundraising.”
- Artists in Residence: a program paying artists a six-month stipend to work freely on themes, plugins, and other aesthetic work.
The foundation also organizes community structures (Discord, meetups, teams) and a merch channel; hosting is provided by Cloudflare and compute by DigitalOcean.
