Definition
A VPN establishes a private logical connection over a public network, commonly using an encrypted tunnel to a remote network or gateway.
Usage and distinctions
VPNs support remote access and personal connectivity. Routing and split-tunnel settings determine which traffic uses the gateway. A VPN does not make every activity anonymous or replace account and device security.
