Definition
Plaintext password storage retains the original readable password instead of a password-verification hash.
Usage and related concepts
Password-verification systems and password managers have different needs: the former normally need not recover the original password, while the latter must retrieve credentials after unlocking. Character restrictions alone do not prove plaintext storage.
