A chain of thought is a sequence of intermediate reasoning steps generated by a model; related prompting methods use such steps for multi-step problems.
Usage and related concepts
It differs from the final answer and does not establish human-like consciousness. Chain-of-thought prompting is a particular method; whether an application exposes reasoning text is a separate design choice.
