Bloodborne

Bloodborne is an action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki and released for PlayStation 4 in March 2015 (March 24 in North America, March 26 in Japan). The game is set in Yharnam, a gothic, Victorian-style city: the “old blood” can seemingly heal any illness, yet turns the infected into beasts, and the player hunts through the city in search of answers. Sony’s official page introduces it as “Hunt your nightmares as you search for answers in the ancient city of Yharnam”. Publisher and platform context also appears in the Sony and PlayStation 5 articles.

Combat and content

Bloodborne keeps FromSoftware’s demanding action combat but at a faster pace than the Souls series: trick weapons transform between two forms, firearms are used to parry, health lost can be regained by striking back within a short window (the Rally system), and procedurally generated Chalice Dungeons can be shared with friends. The Old Hunters, a large expansion released on November 24, 2015, added the Hunter’s Nightmare and new weapons. The game earned year-end accolades from multiple outlets and won the BAFTA for Game Design; by public accounts it had sold roughly 9.3 million copies by November 2025.

Platform availability

Bloodborne is a PlayStation 4 exclusive and is playable on PlayStation 5 through backward compatibility. Public sources record no official PC version or remaster; according to public reporting, Bluepoint once pitched a remake but was told FromSoftware was not interested in pursuing it. In April 2026, public reporting announced a Bloodborne film adaptation with jacksepticeye attached as producer. Whether a PC version, remaster, or sequel will ever come is not confirmed by any official channel; Sony’s and FromSoftware’s own announcements are authoritative.

Discussion in the show

Episode 005, in the chapter “游戏反编译、Mod 与商业模式” (Game decompilation, mods, and business models), discussed the impact of game decompilation on the industry. Guizang noted that many people have been working on recreating Bloodborne, and that after long slow progress, “the last two weeks have advanced remarkably”. He placed this in a context where premium one-purchase games are hit hardest by decompilation: gacha games sell characters and account services, which recreation cannot touch, while AI-assisted decompilation erodes the content and numeric barriers of buy-to-play titles. The show named no specific project, and this page does not link to any such project either; community projects are unaffiliated with the rights holders and their legality varies by jurisdiction. See the episode 005 chapter in the Chinese transcript.
