Apple TV Remote

The physical remote for Apple TV; Siri-enabled models are called Siri Remote.

Also known as

Siri Remote

What the Apple TV remote is

The Apple TV remote is the physical remote Apple ships with the Apple TV set-top box; Siri-enabled models are officially called the Siri Remote. The first-generation Siri Remote launched in October 2015 with the fourth-generation Apple TV, replacing the earlier Apple Remote. The current third-generation Siri Remote was announced in October 2022 and ships with Apple TV 4K, switching charging from Lightning to USB-C.

Features and use

The official product page lists:

  • Siri voice: the remote has a dedicated Siri button; Apple says voice recognition supports up to six family members, with tailored recommendations per person.
  • Playback control: the click pad handles play, pause, fast-forward, rewind, and volume.
  • iPhone as the remote: the official page says an iPhone can control Apple TV from Control Center or the Lock Screen, and can help locate a missing Siri Remote.
  • Charging: as of October 2026, the official specs for both Apple TV 4K configurations on sale note “Siri Remote with USB-C connector”; for the current lineup, see Apple’s product page.

Discussion in the show

In Weekly #005’s chapter “小米蓝牙遥控器做语音输入” (Xiaomi’s Bluetooth remote as a voice input device), Yang Pan compared Xiaomi’s 99-yuan Bluetooth remote with the Apple TV remote, saying “every button is the same as the Apple TV remote,” that holding a button enables voice input, and that it connects over Bluetooth and charges over USB in the Chinese transcript. This is a participant’s experience using the Apple TV remote as a reference point, not a review of either accessory.
